Hello
Fellow Bridge Buffs,
I
have been playing Bridge since I was 15 years old. My mom
and dad took it up in self-defense when we moved to Fayetteville,
Arkansas (Go Hogs!) in 1953. I instantly recognized Bridge
as one of the World's most challenging games along with Chess.
I spent my college career trying to become proficient at the
game, and as a result, barely squeaked out a degree in Chemical
Engineering from the University of Arkansas. BUT… I got a
little better at Bridge and had a lot of fun!!
I
went to work for Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis in 1967, and
ultimately became an instructor/trainer in industrial statistics
and experimentation to improve operations. I retired January
1, 2007 and got back into Bridge with a passion.
I
wanted to play duplicate, but I didn't know where or with
whom, so I joined ACBL to try to find out. A week later I
received a postcard from Mary Hruby about a sectional, and
she said if I needed a partner to give her a call. So I did.
She put me in touch with Luke Lucas and we were off and running
the next day at Donna's game in Olivette.
Since
then we have both become directors and currently own and manage
Twin City Bridge Club in the Jefferson County area. We are
both certified and approved to teach Edith McMullin's Easy
Bridge courses (Standard American Yellow Card) and have taught
two to date with two others currently in progress. Our students
are playing regularly at Unit 143 clubs, sectionals, and regionals.
I would like
to say that Luke is as much a member of the board as I am because
he helps me significantly with my board duties. It is our goal
and commitment to promote Bridge in Jefferson County among adults
and youth to grow and support participation in Unit 143 activities.
